Grades 5-8 Newsletter – April 9, 2021

April 12, 2021 by St. Johns

This week in Earth Science, we made Paper Airplanes to fly for distance. Students also received a lesson topic to report on next Thursday. We did a page in our Geography book on Washington D.C. We wrote a Creative Writing story on April Fool’s Day in English class. We read some articles in our weekly reader, God’s World. We had a review spelling unit on lessons 25-29. We played Ultimate Frisbee in Physical Education class. We have our first softball game of the season on Tuesday, April 13th. We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. Students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honey bees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, a goat, and an alpaca. We are currently giving offerings for a water buffalo. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord!

Grades 5-8 Newsletter – March 31, 2021

This week in Earth Science, we had our final test on Astronomy. We played Jeopardy Review on Monday. We did a couple of pages in our Geography book on the United States Physical Map. We wrote a Creative Writing story on Easter in English class. We played our final indoor game in PE in the Wykoff Commons Gymnasium. We move outside for Physical Education in April and May. We finished lesson 100 in our Math Books. We had a test on the first 100 lessons on Tuesday. We did a math investigation on Wednesday. We have twenty lessons left in math this school year. We enjoyed Meatball Subs on Tuesday. Thanks to our PTL for providing us with a hot lunch. We appreciate it! We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. In the tenth week of the second semester, students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honeybees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, a goat, and an alpaca. We are giving offerings for a water buffalo next. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord! On Wednesday, Third Quarter Report cards were sent home. Let us try to give our best during this final quarter of the school year. Enjoy your Easter Break, your final days off this school year!

Grades 5-8 Newsletter – March 26, 2021

This week in Earth Science, we read about working and living in space. We wrap-up our astronomy study for the year on March 3oth with a final test on chapter 8.2. We worked on the geography of Canada. We finished our Civics book with a page on our family. We assembled our poetry books and made a table of contents with a title page. We played Nitroball and Dodgeball in PE in the Wykoff Commons Gymnasium. We enjoyed some physical activity on Wednesday with an extra two hours of physical education in the gymnasium. This was a reward from their class motivational chart. We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. In the ninth week of the second semester, students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honeybees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, a goat, and an alpaca. We are giving offerings for a water buffalo next. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord! The Third Quarter concluded today. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday. Let us try to give our best during this upcoming final quarter of the school year.

Grades 5-8 Newsletter – March 19, 2021

This week in Earth Science, we read about satellites. We did an activity on throwing a ball in an orbiting cup to see how hard it is to plot a course to a distant object in space. We worked on the geography of North America in American History. We also did some work in our Civics book on our county and city. We wrote two poems in English class for our poetry book (Free Verse & Choice). Next week, we will finish up our poetry unit and books. We played Nitroball and Trench Dodgeball in PE in the Wykoff Commons Gymnasium. We moved our motivational reward with an extra couple of hours of Physical Education to next week due to the snow day on Monday. We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. In the eighth week of the second semester, students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honeybees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, and a goat. We are now trying to purchase an alpaca. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord! The Third Quarter ends next Friday, March 26th.

Grades 5-8 Newsletter – March 12, 2021

This week in Earth Science, we read about space probes. We did an activity with balloons, straw, and fishing line. Students had to design their rockets (balloons) to carry the maximum cargo the highest distance. We worked on the geography of the Western Hemisphere in American History. We also did some work in our Civics book on our county. The last group presented their history project on Monday. Students learned about the Stock Market Crash with a game, and they were introduced to Franklin Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor. They also met Charles Lindbergh. We wrote two poems in English class for our poetry book (Part of Speech and ABC). We had our 17th test over lessons 1-90 in math class. We played Nitroball and Sprout Ball in PE in the Wykoff Commons Gymnasium. We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. In the seventh week of the second semester, students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honeybees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, and a ½ of a goat. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord! Only two weeks remain in the Third Quarter.

Grades 5-8 Newsletter – March 5, 2021

This week in Earth Science, we read about rockets. We are p[lanning on flying some 2-Liter Bottle rockets when the weather warms up. We started presenting our history project in American History. We had a WWI battle with nerf guns, did some golfing, and watched a dance. Both groups presented for about 1 hour. We wrote two poems in English class for our poetry book (Cinquain and Alliteration). We had our 17th test over lessons 1-85 in math class. We played Nitroball and team dodgeball in PE in the Wykoff Commons Gymnasium. We are talking about drugs in health class. We are giving offerings for Heifer International which provides animals to poor countries to help them start farms and to raise money. In the sixth week of the second semester, students have given enough to buy a flock of ducks, a hive of honey bees, a flock of chickens, some rabbits, a sheep, a pig, and a ½ of a goat. Keep bringing in those offerings throughout the remainder of the school year. Praise the Lord!
