About St. Johns’ Education

St. Johns Lutheran School is an arm of ministry of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Both are affiliates of the Minnesota South District of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS). Our shared vision inspires us, as a family of believers in Jesus Christ, to share his love and forgiveness. We are here to serve any family interested in Christian education. Presently, approximately fifty percent of our students are not members of our church. All faiths are welcome.

St. Johns offers programs for students in kindergarten through grade eight. Being a smaller school, students receive direct, personal attention. Our classrooms are multi-grade classrooms, which gives students the excellent opportunity to be exposed and acquainted with subject matter for other grade levels before they are accountable. They also have opportunity to review subject material when it is presented to students in other grades. Multi-grade classrooms help students become more independent and self-motivated.

We encourage students to use their God-given abilities—whether in academics, athletics, or social life—to glorify God their maker. They are encouraged to support and uplift each other. St. Johns Lutheran School is intended to coincide with what is valued at home, rather than be something to take over for families.

Helping parents meet the spiritual, academic, emotional, and physical needs of their children is our mission. Our teachers and staff seek to be a means through which Jesus leads students to the richness and fullness of their lives with which he has given them. To God we give all glory!

Why Chose a Lutheran School?

  • We Make the Cut

According to the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) data, Lutheran schools have preformed well compared to other public and private schools in this country. In 2012, Lutheran schools finished first in five of eight categories and second in the other three categories measured by “The Nation’s Report Card.”

  • The Largest Protestant Parochial School System in America

Through early childhood programs, and elementary and high schools, the congregations of the LCMS are dedicated to providing a solid Lutheran Christian education for our children by operating the largest Protestant parochial school system in America. LCMS congregations operate more than 750 elementary schools with approximately 113,000 students throughout the U.S., as well as three LCMS-operated schools abroad. St. Johns is one of 110 LCMS schools in Minnesota.

Our Mission Starts with God

As you consider St. Johns Lutheran School, know that Lutheran schools:

  • Are driven by a commitment to the Gospel and focused on a mission of bringing hope and healing to students and families.

  • Meet or exceed state and national academic standards at all grade levels.

  • Have educators who model servant leadership. “...Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.’” Matthew 20:26-28

  • Have educators who model spiritual leadership. They study God’s Word, share their personal faith story, apply Law and Gospel appropriately, exhibit a passion for ministry, act courageously, equip God’s people for service, care for others, demonstrate integrity, and pray.

  • Have educators who model visionary leadership. They empathize with and build up others, and practice stewardship of resources.

  • Are governed by board members who clearly understand their roles and focus on the vision and board policies that effectively govern the operation of the school.

In all cases of enrollment, it is to be understood that no child will be excused from religious instruction, nor will the instruction be changed or altered to accommodate a child’s different belief. St. Johns is a Lutheran school and teaches Lutheran doctrine. Non-member students will not be required to be confirmed in the Lutheran faith, nor will they be expected to join the Lutheran church. We encourage non-member Christian students and families to stay active in their own church. If a child or family desires to convert to Lutheranism, that is their personal choice.
